Literacy development is critical to your child’s overall development, and there are many ways this can be done. Singing, talking and playing word games with your child can increase their vocabulary. Take a minute to view the short video present by the West Virginia Department of Education.

During the week of October 2-6, WV Public Broadcasting is sponsoring the Mountain Readers Become Leaders program to celebrate and foster a love of reading in children across West Virginia. Yesterday, volunteer Mrs. Wynne Proudfoot, a former West Taylor fourth grade teacher, read to Mrs. Messenger’s third grade class. The book titled “Fallingwater: The Building of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Masterpiece” was written by two WV authors, Marc Harshman and Anna Egan Smucker. This book will be read to classrooms all over West Virginia’s 55 counties this week! Thank you, Mrs. Proudfoot and WV Public Broadcasting!
